Greta Thunberg not only saved the world, but is now influencing our dating lives.
"Thunberging" is a definition coined by the dating website OkCupid, where potential lovers connect over their shared enthusiasm for environmental issues.
According to the website, the number of mentions of climate change and other environmental terms on dating profiles has increased by 240% in the last two years. And interestingly, there was an 800% increase in mentions of Thunberg in 2019.
The OkCupid survey figures also show that 51% of respondents ranked climate change as the most important issue to them in 2019, up from 34% of respondents in 2009 and 2014.
The company's in-app question on whether they are concerned about climate change was one of the most frequently answered questions of 2019.
"As climate change has become a major topic of conversation around the world, we're finding that people's passion for the planet is becoming a hot topic.
Unsurprisingly, women are more concerned about the state of the world than men, according to the survey. The survey found that 88% of Generation Z women and 79% of Generation Z men are concerned about the environment.
Meanwhile, 87% of Millennial women and 82% of men in the same age group are concerned about climate change.
And 80% of Generation X women are concerned about climate change, compared to 74% of their male counterparts.
The spokesperson added that by developing the term, she was "highlighting the impact she (Thunberg) is having on younger generations around the world.... Who better to represent this powerful movement towards climate change activism than Greta herself?"
